TEMPORARY CLOSURE AT MAKAPUʻU LOOKOUT FOR REPAIRS

HONOLULU – The Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of State Parks (DLNR DSP) announces temporary closures of the Makapuʻu Lookout portion of the Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline for repairs, starting today.
Repair work is scheduled through Wednesday, November 4, 2026. The temporary closures will not impact access or parking for the main Makapuʻu Point Lighthouse Trail, only the adjacent lookout to the north.
Work hours between 6 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., Monday – Friday, excluding holidays, will result in full closures of the upper viewing area. Partial closures, from 2:30 p.m. – 6 a.m., Monday-Friday and all day on weekends and holidays, will allow for limited viewing opportunities at the upper viewing platform.
Work Hours Closure:
Monday – Friday
6 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. (excluding holidays)
Full closure of the upper viewing area
Non-Work Hours Closure:
Monday – Friday
2:30 p.m. – 6 a.m.
Saturday – Sunday (including holidays)
All day
Partial closure of the upper viewing area
Abhe & Svoboda, Inc. is the contractor on the project. Please be advised that inclement weather may push the scheduled construction dates.
State Parks staff asks visitors to respect construction signage and stay within designated open areas for everyone’s safety. More information and any updates will be posted to the DLNR website at: https://dlnr.hawaii.gov/dsp/.
